Don't sell out Oakland - Public land for public good. This deal not only fails to meet state law (California Surplus Lands Act), it's morally bankrupt. Re-open the RFP for E 12th, engage our community, and make this project 100%, low-income housing. Our community deserve no less! It can be done: public land should be used for public good, not back room deals with out-of-state investment firms and unethical developers. There is little truth to the hollow arguments claiming that market-rate housing will help solve our housing affordability crisis. Long-time residents are being pushed out of Oakland every day because of skyrocketing housing costs. The city’s number one priority right now should be figuring out how to make it possible for working families to stay in Oakland - not developing luxury high rises for the rich that are just going to raise rents and exacerbate displacement. Will you prioritize the people that make up Oakland communities, or simply a fortunate few?

I would like for the contract to be reopened and allow for affordable housing devleopers to apply. I am not confident that council followed the law on this. Even if there were not enough interest when the the RDA opened years ago..there is obviously interest now. With the increase in rents, it is imperative that Council makes it a top priority that Oakland is an affordable community to all residents.
