I've lived in Oakland for 19 years now. I love so many things about this city, including that it is a place for all ages, backgrounds, and classes. That diversity will change without safeguards. We already see this happening as rents & home prices skyrocket! I support rules and funding for measures that will reduce the displacement of current residents as well as create affordable housing in all forms. I urge Council to adopt inclusionary zoning rules that will result in creation of affordable housing units - both rental and ownership units. I urge Council to support affordable housing through the Community Land Trust. I also urge Council to give existing neighbors a preference for at least 25% of newly created affordable units.
We must keep Oakland affordable for current residents! Otherwise the displacement of low-income residents (often Seniors & people of color) will continue. Let us create a city that benefits all its citizens, not just those in power and with privilege.

Like NG Ogden, I support passage of specific rules and prioritization of funding for measures that will stop displacement of current residents and spur creation of lots more affordable housing, including rental, ownership and community land trust housing. I urge Council to adopt inclusionary zoning rules that will result in creation of affordable housing units - both rental and ownership units. I also urge Council to give existing neighbors a preference for at least 25% of newly created affordable units. And I support the adoption and funding of enhanced programs to keep fixed income homeowners in their homes through mortgage payment reduction programs or other innovations. Unless Oakland takes direct and immediate action to keep Oakland affordable for current residents, the displacement of lower-income residents, including low-income senior citizens and people of color, will continue to accelerate. Take action now.

I support passage of specific rules and prioritization of funding for measures that will stop or significantly curb displacement of current residents and spur creation of lots more affordable housing, including rental, ownership and community land trust housing.

I love my city. I don't want my city to displace the low income and senior citizens. Please create more affordable housing for all.
