Speeding And Other Unsafe Driving Behaviors Lead To Traffic Injuries And Fatalities. Traffic Collisions Are Preventable Through Engineering, Enforcement And Education. Engineering - Building Safe Streets Is The Most Important Step In Reducing Collisions. There Are Also Proven Engineering Tools To Reduce Collisions (I.E. High Visibility Crosswalks, Increase Signal Timing, Pedestrian Refuge Islands, Etc.) Enforcement - The Oakland Police Department Through The Enhancement Of Its Traffic Division Will Focus On Traffic Enforcement To The Most Dangerous Traffic Behaviors. Enforcement Combined With Education Can Reduce Pedestrian Collissions.Education -The City Of Oakland, Along With Private Companies And Non-Profits, Can Develop A Targeted Education Program To Train Professional Drivers Through Collision Prevention Courses. The City Of Oakland Can Launch A Safe Streets Campaign To Raise Awareness Of Traffic Safety Among The Public To Target The Most Common Causes Of Traffic Death; On The January 12, 2015 Public Safety Committee Agenda
