This is an exciting move and I support it whole-heartedly. As the city goes through changes to the community as development increases, it is important for us to recognize and preserve the cultural heritage that that the African American community brings to Oakland. I would love to see similar initiatives (if they have not already been established) for the Latino Community in Fruitvale, Asian American Community in Chinatown/East Lake Merritt and Ohlone communities around the Lake and Temescal Stream. Thank you Pres. McElhaney for sponsoring this initiative.
