3 16-0741 Subject: 30 Day Monthly Police Staffing Report
From: Oakland Police Department
Recommendation: Receive The Oakland Police Department's (OPD) Monthly Informational Report On Recruiting And Sworn Staffing Levels As Of December 31, 2016.
There continues to be a loss of many potentials applicants. It seems OPD is fairly okay with spending so much money to put hundreds through the hiring process and delay it so long, that many begin to look for alternatives. Because of this disconnect, many pursue outside opportunities and choose them over OPD due to the lack of communication. Hiring process needs to be streamlined and the hiring status updated frequently for potential candidates. The online system remains backdated on the hiring steps and isn't accurately affecting the correct steps completed or passed. The audit requested by the Mayor was complete. There should be some form of update on what the status of the next academy is. I would like to please request an OPD representative to address all of this issues - and address what they intend to do to make the hiring process more efficient and reduce prolonged delays in the process within their control, especially when there is no longer a justifiable reason.
