I am an Oakland resident and active member of the local Moms Demand Action group. I support aligning the DVP spending plan with the recommendations from the Reimagining Public Safety Task Force. Recognizing the need to prepare to release grants, the work being done by the task force to reallocate/redirect funding from enforcement/punishment to prevention/healing is undermined if funding decisions are made without taking the task force recommendations into account. I am requesting that the Life Enrichment members consider a 6 to 12 month extension on all current Oakland Unite contracts to enable a functional and productive alignment to take place. Thank you for your consideration.

I am an Oakland resident since 2008 (D4) and a Moms Demand Action volunteer. I oppose the Dept of Violence Prevention and Oakland Unite Spending Plan as currently proposed. In order to have effective violence prevention efforts for our most at-risk communities, we should involve community partners in the budget process who will be greatly affected by reduction in grants/funds. There should be alignment around the Reimagining Public Safety Taskforce with the Department of Violence Prevention's plan. I am requesting that the Life Enrichment members consider a 6 to 12month extension on all current Oakland Unite contracts to enable a functional and productive alignment to take place. Thank you for your consideration.

I have lived in Oakland since 1997, and reside in D2. I OPPOSE the Department of Violence Prevention & Oakland Unite Spending Plan as currently proposed. I'm writing in support of the organizations that do Community Healing work. The current proposal completely cuts out the Community Healing Initiative, and i believe that healing is critical work that should be central to any comprehensive violence prevention plan. So much conversation is centered around the need for healing and yet, sadly, the support for this work seems to be lacking.

The City is currently going through a process around Re-imagining Public Safety and there is an opportunity to align that process with the Department of Violence Prevention’s Plan, but in order to do that, more time is needed to see what emerges from the Re-imagining Taskforce. I support -- at minimum -- a 6 to 12-month extension on all current Oakland Unite contracts so that there is more time to align the Department of Violence Prevention’s spending plan with the plan that emerges from the Re-imagining Public Safety Taskforce. Investment in community healing must be part of any comprehensive plan. Thank you.

I oppose the Dept of Violence Prevention and Oakland Unite Spending Plan as currently proposed. If we are committed to preventing violence from directly impacting our most vulnerable communities (black and brown communities), we should consider aligning the process around the Reimagining Public Safety Taskforce with the Department of Violence Prevention's Plan. I am requesting that the Life Enrichment members consider a 6 to 12month extension on all current Oakland Unite contracts to enable how a feasible alignment can take place. Keeping our communities safe involves healing our communities. Respectfully submitted, Josie Camacho
