Recommendation: Adopt A Resolution Renewing And Continuing The City Council's Declaration Of A Local Emergency Due To The Existence Of The City's Homelessness Crisis
Homelessness in Oakland continues to violate multiple human rights. Thousands of unhoused adults and children live without access to clean water, adequate shelter, food access, warmth, and protection from COVID-19. There are more and more people sleeping outdoors each day, while low and no-income housing continues to be unaffordable for thousands. I support Vice Mayor Kaplan's recommendation to renew the city council's declaration of local emergency due to the homelessness crisis.
