I support this! It is appalling to see that less than 1% of all Oakland voters end up contributing money to campaigns, while over half of that comes from wealthier zip codes.
I support this. As it stands today, there are very few people who can afford to run for office and/or be able to make decisions independent of parties and political machines that will cut them off financially if they don't comply with demands to support the status quo. Anyone who could is not likely to share my desire for profound systemic changes. It would take way more than this measure to correct that, but it is certainly a step in the right direction.
As an Oakland resident in D5, I support the fair elections act! The people should decide who represents us -- not big-money donors. Please give us a say and place this act on this year's ballot.
I support having the Fair Elections Act and want to see Oakland adopt this to improve the way our local elections are influenced and bring in more democracy. Please support and place on this year's ballot.
I strongly support the Oakland Fair Elections Act. Our city would hugely benefit from the measures in the OFEA, especially as they curb the influence of big-money donors--a problem all too pernicious in our city and across the nation. This has got to stop if we're ever going to truly regain our democracy--and Oakland is a great place to start. We can be a model for the country--let's lead on this!
