Recommendation: Adopt? An Ordinance Adding Section 1.10 To The Oakland Municipal Code, Entitled "The Civil Protection Of The People Of Oakland Ordinance," To Detail The City Attorney's Authority To Bring Civil Actions To Protect The Health, Safety, And Welfare Of Oaklanders And Equitably Enforce Violations Of City Law, Consistent With The Charter
As an Oakland resident, I strongly support the Civil Protection Of The People Of Oakland Ordinance (OMC 1.10), and encourage City Council to adopt it without delay. This ordinance will provide the City Attorney with a critical tool for enforcing Oakland's laws, including helping to protect impacted communities from repeat offenders when it comes to environmental pollution that disproportionately impacts Oakland's historically marginalized residents.
