All the people who care so much about not approving the Mayor's salary increase (which is mandated by the Charter) should also oppose the Chief of Police's salary, which is much higher than the Mayor's. They should also opposed OPD OT.

I urge the city council to not approve to increase the salary of the mayor. During a time of extreme city budget deficits to the tune of $360 million over the next two years, it is not appropriate to raise one's salary by over $75,000 when the current existing salary is over $200k. Many programs were cut and many job positions were closed in order to attempt to close the budget deficit, but in reality the budget deficit has not been solved. Prior mayors did not attempt to raise their own salary and the current mayor attempting to do so during a budget crisis is quite tone-deaf. Residents of Oakland are all struggling and this type of large-scale raise for an individual is a slap in the face. If a salary increase were to be considered it should be due to merit and based on results-driven outcomes. In the mayor's short 7 month tenure, this criteria has not been met. Expectations and key performance metrics need to implemented as the gauge for any and all when it comes to salary increase justification. Thank you.

We urge you NOT TO APPROVE any salary increases during this financial crisis, particularly for upper management, including the Mayor. The budget allocated for such salary increases should be directed towards essential city services that our community is in dire need of. It is disheartening to witness the focus on personal gain when there are other city employees, performing essential work, struggling to make ends meet or positions that have not been filled due to budget issues. We expect our leaders to be GENUINELY COMMITTED to making our city better and safe for all residents, not just for their personal interests.

No salaries for upper management such as City Attorney and City Auditor or Mayor should be increased at this time, at least till we are more financially stable. They are already 6 figure earners they can hold on a little longer for their pay raises!

OPPOSE. If one of the reason is that Mayor's assistant/staff has higher salary than her, perhaps lower the salary of the staff. You cannot really compare elected positions or other positions. Policy specifies a range - evaluiate the range, do not go to the max. Please do not use public fund to support your political ally. Listen to the public how we want to spend our money. Evaluate in 6 to 12 months - to see where Oakland is in terms of financial situation, in terms of how the Mayor is performing. Policy ask that you evaluate. It doesnt say you have to immediately go to the max. The Cities you choose as comparision are questionable. If that can give you an idea of average, why will this proposal made our Mayor the 4th (?) highest paid Mayor in California, after your proposed raise????? AMEND the ordinance. Put the subject matter on voter's hands. Not political allies within the City. How can the budget manager say the increase will not affect the budget??!! Did you budget it in before Council approval? Even if there is salary savings this year. Are you only giving the increase this year? NO! It will affect Oakland's spending for years to come. Be a responsible finance director. Give the full picture. Proposal was developed by someonet retiring (going out the door, who cares), and signed off by someone who just got here (new City administrator just hired by the Mayor).

Raises should be earned for positive leadership, results, and impact - none of which the Mayor has not demonstrated. Our City is facing a historic budget deficit, and the Mayor taking a penny more than the minimum amount required by the City charter is irresponsible, selfish, and completely tone deaf. This is so gross that this is even under consideration - not even trying to hide the corruption. Do better Oakland.
