Rising shootings in Oakland - What is the city's plan to resolve? Can this please be a standing item?
I've lived in the Laurel district in Oakland off Bayo and High street since 2016. Crime and shootings in my neighborhood have gotten worse and worse since covid steadily rising. Since covid, there has been shootings on my street with assault rifles, someone died from a different gang shooting, increases in break ins etc. I am writing this weeks after a woman just died from a stray bullet from gang violence outside of the Laurel lounge. And tonight another shooting on Vale and Bayo. My husband has written to Gavin Newson, Libby Shaff, and Sheng Tao. The only response back he got was from a staffer at Gavin Newson's office as a thank you. There was no response on your plans.
I am asking for a standing item on this issue where our elected representatives update the Oakland residents on what your plans are to resolve gun violence in residential neighborhoods, in what timeline, and the results of your interventions to date. Thank you.
