I oppose passing this overly simplistic resolution. However, if the council decides to pass it anyway, I ask that it include an addendum that acknowledges the violent attacks by Hamas terrorists in Israel on October 7th, their stated mission to destroy Israel, and that they continue to hold hostages who they kidnapped on October 7th. It makes no sense to demand the release of hostages in the resolution if their kidnappers aren’t identified. By purposely glossing over Hamas, a terrorist organization, it also further victimizes the people who Hamas targeted for murder, torture, rape, and kidnapping.

Dear Council, my name is (Valeria). I am a (Jewish resident of Oakland). I am here asking you to amend the proposed resolution to condemn Hamas and call for their removal. As President Biden, Secretary of State Blinken and Congress have all made clear: There can be no lasting peace for Israelis and Palestinians if Hamas remains in power. As stated in their charter and shown by their October 7 attack – the deadliest on global Jews since the Holocaust – Hamas has no interest in coexistence. For these reasons, I hope you support a real peace by amending the resolution. Thank you for your time.
As an Oakland resident and as a healthcare worker, I support an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Palestine/ Gaza. As our representatives, you must listen to the people of Oakland / Huichin Ohlone Land when we say you should support the END of the Israeli Occupation of Palestine. No more U.S. aid to Israel. No more bloodshed! No more bombs! No more white phosphorus gas attacks! End the siege on the hospitals! As a veteran educator in Oakland of the past 20 years, I am opposed to our City Gov taking a stand on this issue while giving a free pass to Hamas. Hamas is a terror organization that has vowed to repeat its savagery of Oct 7th multiple times. There will be no peace as long as Hamas remains in Gaza. A ceasefire will only aid Hamas to rearm and fortify itself. We must eliminate Hamas. We must call for Hamas to surrender and cease its reign of terror on its own Palestinian citizens as well as on Israeli citizens. Free Palestine Of Hamas!
