I fully support this resolution. Oakland cannot allow this brazen attack on our democracy by corporate interests. The Taxpayer Deception Act seeks to overturn funding for paid family leave, disability Insurance, gun violence prevention and climate programs among other vital services that keep our communities safe. Protect our essential services by supporting this resolution, opposing the California Business Roundtable, and demanding that wealthy corporations pay their fair share in taxes!

This proposition reveals how corporate greed comes at the expense of our communities. State and local governments pass funding measures every year for programs and services that the majority in our communities want, like health care, housing, roads, fire safety, libraries, parks and so many others. With the passing of this deceptive proposition, measures that improve our communities would be very unlikely to pass in the future.

It’s crucial that we stand together as Californians to defend our democracy, uphold the will of the voters, and protect our essential services.

The Taxpayer Deception Act would be a disaster for our local governments and school districts and make it even harder to get corporations and wealthy Californians to pay their fair share for the benefit of everyone across our state. It makes a lot of sense for Oakland to stand up as a leader and oppose this blatant attempt to defund our public institutions.

Oakland Rising is absolutely in support of the Council taking action on this resolution. The Taxpayer Deception Act would drastically impact the revenue of our city and our local efforts to revitalize our economy after the devastating impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic. The proposed Taxpayer Protect and Government Accountability Act undermines the will of Oakland voters who passed Measure C, F, and Y and significantly restrict you, our City Council, from funding our city's essential services in the future. It’s crucial that we stand together as Californians to defend our democracy, uphold the will of the voters, and protect our essential services. Please support this resolution and oppose the California Business Roundtable!

The Taxpayer Deception Act would undermine the will of the voter by restricting local governments from funding essential services, including but not limited to: schools, emergency and disaster response, and homelessness services. It’s crucial that we stand together as Californians to defend our democracy, uphold the will of the voters, and protect our essential services. Please support this resolution and oppose the California Business Roundtable!
