    I am Josh Gunter, and I live in West Oakland and bike to and from Jack London Square on a weekly basis. Safety for pedestrians and cyclists should be top priority for our city. I do not want to get run over or side-swiped by heavy, dangerous trucks when I'm on my way to patronize local businesses, see friends, and enjoy our beautiful waterfront.

    Please reject the O-MAST amendments and keep the Downtown Oakland Specific Plan intact. Specifically, please:
    -Direct truck traffic to the freeway frontage roads on 5th St and 6th St
    -Keep 3rd Street as the backbone of the low stress biking network
    -Keep protected bike lanes on Market St and MLK JR Way.

    Thank you for your time and prioritizing the safety of citizens.

    Adopt the Specific Plan as is and reject O-MAST amendments, protect and prioritized these critical safe bike routes, including on 3rd St from Mandela to JLS!

    The safety of Oakland residents is paramount. It is no surprise to me that an organization such as Schnitzer Steel which regularly subjects residents of the entire region to noxious fires is trying to push for changes to the Specific Plan that deprioritize safety.

    Adopt the Specific Plan as is. Residents of West Oakland, and Jack London Square deserve safety.

    I live in West Oakland and I bike to get around Oakland, from West Oakland to Downtown and to Jack London Square.

    I'm upset to learn that O-MAST and Schnitzer Steel are running a last-minute ploy that threatens the safety of people who walk and bike by opposing long-established plans to improve pedestrian and bike safety in Jack London.

    Truck traffic NECESSITATES increased physical protection for people, rather than obviate them. I hereby ask that Council rule to:

    1. Direct truck traffic to the freeway frontage roads on 5th St and 6th St, which are more appropriate for truck traffic than a local neighborhood street.

    2. Support 3rd St as the backbone of a Low-Stress Bike Network to support the thriving retail and residential corridor, and maintain safety of neighbors who travel on it.

    3. Reconnect West Oakland to the Waterfront with protected bike lanes and protected intersections, especially on Market St where two cyclists have been killed by turning vehicles.

    Much of the city has been improved on pedestrian and cyclist access and safety in recent years - but regionally, very little of that has been seen in the Jack London Square area, and other sections of central-south Oakland. Please consider carefully how to bring those benefits to that area as well in this and other future measures!

    Please build a robust and low stress bicycle and pedestrian route in Jack London and keep truck traffic away from 3rd Street by providing alternate routes. This is a crucial link for people of all ages and abilities to ensure safe mobility options. The ODSP should be kept as-is and safe networks for people on bikes should be prioritized over truck traffic, with plenty of routes for trucks available on 5th and other streets.

    In 2020, I had been struck and injured by a semi-truck driver on 3rd Street on my daily bike ride to work from West Oakland to Jack London Square. I was almost dragged under an 18-wheeler.

    We need pedestrian and bicycle safety along 3rd Street NOW; it is the backbone of a future low-stress bicycle network connecting West Oakland with JLS businesses and the Oakland waterfront.

    Please REJECT the last minute O-MAST amendments. Keep the Downtown Oakland Specific Plan intact. The people of West Oakland and JLS have spent years weighing in on and advocating for these critical safe bike routes, including on 3rd St from Mandela to Oak.

    Maintain the ODSP AS IS, AND reject any changes that are being requested by O-MAST.

    KEEP truck traffic on 5th and 6th Street freeway frontage roads.

    KEEP 3rd st as the backbone of the low stress biking network

    KEEP protected bike lanes on Market St and MLK JR Way.
