I encourage council to pass these basic tenant protections. Landlords should be straightforward in their dealings and have no need to bank so many years of increases, making the tenants' housing situation less predictable. They should also pay their taxes.

This is straight-forward tweaks to make the system fairer and put pressure on landlords to pay their fair share especially as we face a potential budget crisis

I am a renter in District 1 and an affordable housing policy expert and I heartily support this legislation. Banking increases allows landlords to subvert the protections and shock tenants with huge increases that likely exceed the income growth of the tenant. Extending tenant petition deadlines will help tenants better access their legal rights. Landlords who don't pay their business taxes should not be able to raise rents or evict tenants - if they are all about people paying their bills on time, maybe they should give it a try. Thank you councilmember Kalb for introducing this legislation!

Like all tenant protections we ask for, this is common-sense legislation that harms no one and helps a lot of people.
