    Dear city of Oakland,

In reviewing, the video of the Nov 14, Rules and Legislative meeting, I'm better understanding, that Oakland city council & Oakland city govt staff, will at least be allowed, some time & discussion, of budgetary ideas & needs at the upcoming, at the special city council meeting, Tues. November 19th.

I hope, the special city council meeting, November 19th, can be, a safe space. And can be, a public meeting, that can take its time - for clear, accountable descriptions, of where exactly budget cuts & budget freezes, are going to be taking place in Oakland, in the next 6 months.

I also hope, time for the meeting, can offer some positive explanations, of why the coliseum sale, took the direction it did, in its final, few months.

A final reminder, that from the fall of 2022, then councilperson Thao, and Councilperson Gallo, created a very good plan, to actually help reduce violent crime in Oakland. It seems, this goal is actually being accomplished, in the first two years, of the Mayor Thao administration.

Oakland violent crime reduction, should be seriously addressed, in upcoming months. And as part of, future Oakland budget planning. And hopefully, a good reminder, that MACRO & social programs, can usually be of more help, than more and more police.

    sincerely,

I am writing to you once again on the topic of trash and litter accumulation in and around Oakland, specifically as it relates to our many broken and battered garbage containers surrounding and located inside our City Parks.

Last month, the Block by Block Organizing Network (BBBON) spoke to you about the need to declare a public health emergency because of the ongoing epidemic of dumping and trash on our City streets. I appreciated their speaking up and would like to add my voice. The City of Oakland is not showing initiative on the issue of trash accumulation because it has not bothered to fix, repair or replace its aging, broken garbage collection receptacles, which are regularly dumped, rummaged and vandalized for many years! This contributes to the trash problem rather than reducing it. It sends a terrible message to the public who make efforts to keep our streets clean, because if the City doesn’t care, why should we?

A couple thousand dollars to replace the broken receptacles can surely be found. Whatever money is spent on this problem should yield a greater savings in terms of time and resources saved that will otherwise need to be spent cleaning up the mess resulting from the current state of disrepair.

Please, do something about this ongoing problem, which should have been addressed years ago.
