My name is Andy Wang (pronounced as 'Won'), and though I live in Livermore, I have been volunteering in illegal dumping cleanups throughout Oakland and other Bay Area cities for a year and a half now for free. I post on Instagram under the username Pengweather to bring awareness to illegal dumping and inspire people to become volunteers and be a part of the solution. Although a lot of work still remains, I believe that myself and other volunteers have helped make a small dent in Oakland's illegal dumping problem. But this would not have been possible with the amazing people at Oakland Public Works, specifically from Keep Oakland Clean and Beautiful. Shout out to Peter Dunlap and Leland Moore, who have been very supportive of my efforts. I worry that potential cuts to KOCB, will detrimentally impact their ability to work with volunteers. I hope that Oakland doesn't cut cleanups, enforcement, and long-term solutions from its budget that are needed to stop illegal dumping.
