Recommendation: Adopt An Ordinance (1) Amending The Rent Adjustment Ordinance To (A) Limit Banking Of CPI Rent Increases To Expire After Four Years And After Transfer Of Property; (B) Prohibit Rent Increases For Owners Delinquent On Business Taxes; (C) Extend Tenant Petition Deadlines From 90 Days To 180 Days And (2) Amending The Just Cause For Eviction Ordinance To Prohibit No Fault Evictions For Owners Delinquent On Business Taxes
I oppose this agenda. As a modest landlord all of these items make it difficult for me to maintain my property. Besides the highest property taxes in the Bay Area and the increases in insurance I can barely afford to keep my duplex. When will the City Council start to support the small businesses and stop taking away our rights?
