My name is Thu and I am a resident of Oakland, district 4. I join my community members in asking for an emergency meeting to pass a resolution condemning the genocide of the Palestinian people and calling for a ceasefire, following the lead of Richmond and the Alameda County Democratic Central Committee. This resolution must be passed immediately to help end the shameful violence occurring in Gaza and divert the billions of dollars put towards Israeli military aid to support community flourishing in oakland and beyond.

Following the model set forth by Richmond and the Alameda County Democratic Central Committee, please pass this urgent resolution and affirm Oakland's solidarity with the Palestinian people. Please do not let our tax dollars fund genocide.

My name is Ro and I live in Oakland. Along with several concerned residents, we ask the City of Oakland to sponsor and pass a resolution condemning genocide of the Palestinian people.
We will be following the precedent set by the City of Richmond and Alameda County Democratic Central Committee.
This action is the bare minimum, and an easy way to stand on the right side of history.
    This is extremely urgent!

I ask the Oakland City Council to follow the example of Richmond Mayor Eduardo Martinez and Vice Mayor Gayle McLaughlin, who co-sponsored this Resolution Affirming Richmond’s Support and Solidarity with the Palestinian People of Gaza. I ask for the following:

    1. Sponsor or co-sponsor an advisory resolution, following Richmond’s model, affirming solidarity with Palestinian people against genocide. Condemn Israeli leadership’s ethnic cleansing and collective punishment.

    2. Use your power as the City Council President (Oakland Municipal Code 2.20.070-A) and Chair of the Rules & Regulations Committee (Rule 23 of the City Council’s current Rules of Procedure) to call for a special meeting to pass this resolution with extreme urgency. More than 8,000 Palestinians have been killed in the last three weeks. Following the usual three-week procedure for introducing new agenda items is unacceptable while genocide is escalating.

    3. Post information and updates regarding the above actions on all of your platforms (including social media, website, and email lists) so that we, your constituents, know that you are accountable to us and transparent in your communications.

I am proud to live in The Town and continue its legacy of justice. I call for a resolution affirming solidarity with Palestinians against genocide. We will remember your response.

    Your constituent,
    Summer-Solstice Thomas

I strongly believe the City of Oakland should come out in support of the people of Gaza who are facing a horrific genocide. Be on the right side of history, and show solidarity with the Palestinian struggle and all oppressed people! Signed, an anti-Zionist Jew

Oakland cannot be silent about the Palestinian Genocide happening live on our phone screens. Gazan journalists aged 17-above are risking their life to show us the truth. To show how our tax money is being spent.

Oakland needs to affirm its solidarity with the Palestinian people. Condemn the genocide and condemn the apartheid. It is the Jewish thing to do. Never again and not in my name.

Somaya Abdelgany about 1 year ago

My name is Somaya Abdelgany and I am a resident of District 3. I urge the City Council to introduce and pass a resolution in solidarity with the Palestinian people, calling for an immediate ceasefire and an end to all US military aid to Israel’s occupation of Palestine.

A genocide is currently being committed with the “unequivocal support” of our federal government. Over the last month alone, 10,000 Palestinians have been killed, 4,000 of which are children. Thousands more have been forcibly displaced from their homes, severely injured, or are horrifically still buried alive under the rubble of destroyed infrastructure. Water, power, communications, and humanitarian aid have been mercilessly obstructed. Every minute that action is not taken to stop this risks another senseless massacre. This is all just the latest atrocity in 75 years of Israel’s violent occupation and ethnic cleansing of Palestine.

You don’t need to be Palestinian, Arab, Muslim, Jewish, or Christian to feel the weight of a genocide being committed with your American tax dollars - you just need to be human. These dollars could be put to much better use at home to meet the basic needs of food, housing, and healthcare for our communities. Please stand on the right side of history by speaking up and demonstrating the kind of leadership that our state and federal politicians have failed to exhibit.

My name is Sasha, I'm an Oakland resident and a Bay Area native, and I am writing to urge city council to support and pass a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and an end to US military aid to Israel. Israel is not defending itself, they are committing a genocide against Palestinian people. This is not an exaggeration, it is something that is confirmed by international analysts. 10,000 people in Palestine have been killed. The killing of Palestinian people, which include children and the elderly, is doing nothing but moving forward Israel's plans to wipe Palestinian people permanently from their own land. I will be watching how the council members react to Oakland residents demanding them to call for a cease-fire - show us that we can vote for you again in the upcoming elections. I will not vote for council members that support genocide.

I am asking the City of Oakland and the City Council to represent its people and to sponsor and pass a resolution condemning the genocide of the Palestinian people. Tens of thousands of people showed up over the weekend to make it clear that a ceasefire and an end to funding Israeli war machine are our demands. Follow the righteous precedent set by the City of Richmond and Alameda County Democratic Central Committee.

My name is Sarah, a resident of Oakland 94607, and I demand the Council to follow in Richmond, CA’s footsteps and pass a resolution against the on-going genocide of Palestinians, which includes an immediate ceasefire, allowing humanitarian aid to enter, and refusing to send additional weapons and funding to Israel. There has been 30 days of ongoing bombing, with over 10,000 dead and tens of thousands more injured and displaced. As your constituents, we are asking the Council to hold special meeting to pass this resolution with extreme urgency, AND to post information and updates regarding the above actions on all of your platforms

I am asking the City of Oakland and City Council to represent its people and to sponsor and pass a resolution condemning genocide of the Palestinian people. 50,000 people showed up over the weekend to make it clear that we are demanding a ceasefire and an end to funding Israel. We will be following the precedent set by the City of Richmond and Alameda County Democratic Central Committee. This action is the bare minimum, and an easy way to stand on the right side of history. This support cannot wait and I urge you to do the right thing.

Bottom-up power-building starts at the local level (then gradually works its way up to state and federal). Many Bay Area leaders have called for a ceasefire already. The language is there and has been for a while now (Richmond’s resolution passed almost two weeks ago, and the Alameda County Dems just passed an even stronger one a week ago).

I am Jewish. I have experienced anti-semitism. I've been called a Jesus killer. My parents were discriminated against in their attempt to purchase a home. Criticism of what Israel is doing in Gaza is just that, a critique of specific bad actions being taken. It is not anti-semitism. Responding to the war crimes Hamas committed with war crimes by Israel will not result in long-term safety for anyone. It is imperative that we address the both/and of what is happening. I urge City Council to agendize, and vote in support of, a resolution calling for a ceasefire.
