I support the immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and complete and total divestment from the Isreali military and government. The U.S. should no longer be complicit in genocide in Gaza. Palestinian people everywhere deserve freedom and a right to life. From the river to the sea.

I strongly urge the council to pass this resolution for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Palestine. Please follow in the brave footprints of the City of Richmond and Alameda County and vote to pass this resolution in support of Palestinians by calling for a ceasefire, allowing humanitarian aid, and for an end of funding and weapons sent to Israel
This is absolutely critical, now more than ever, as we are past day 50 of carpet bombing with over 14,000 Palestinians killed many of them children and so many more injured and displaced. Please be on the right side of history and listen to your constituents.

I’m writing to express with the highest urgency and plead that you call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, immediate aid to Palestinians, and a final end to US funding to Israel - which is at the crux of this genocide. We must put an end to US imperialism. We must put an end to dropping bombs on the people of the global majority because politicians and the 1% want to line their pockets. We are not stupid! Settler colonialism no more! Indigenous land back now! Decolonizing is not a just land acknowledgment. let’s be serious. We are Oakland and we must be at the forefront of being on the right side of history, including righting our wrongs.

As a long time Oakland resident and educator, I support the resolution for a permanent ceasefire and immediate humanitarian aid protection in occupied Palestine. Israel’s war crimes are deplorable and inhumane. Murdering almost 20,000 innocent civilians who have nothing to do with Hamas is clear genocide. The over 5,000 innocent children who were robbed of their lives by US funded bombs deserved to grow up and see Israel’s occupation and oppression end. Free Palestine 🇵🇸

My wife is a Jewish person and the direct descendant of German Jewish Holocaust survivors. I echo what she has been saying to everyone who will listen: never again for anyone. Safety and peace for both Palestinians and Israelis will never come out of the bombing and mass death and destruction that is currently happening in Gaza. Please pass this resolution. Believing in the well-being and freedom of the Palestinian people is in no way anti-Semitic.

To be in Oakland, is to take a stance. We are all witnessing the terrible colonization occurring and we need to take a stance when we are fighting for the lives of people in Oakland or the ones in Palestine. Palestine will be free!! Free all the people !!!!

I am a resident of Oakland District 3, a healthcare worker, a supporter of decolonization and the right to life and prosperity for all oppressed peoples. I support a resolution calling for immediate ceasefire in Gaza. I hope the council members look back to the roots of Oakland and honor our legacy as a People’s Town that calls out inequities and and remains in solidarity with Palestine, as all of our liberations are tied together. We are not free until we are all free.

As a long-time resident of Oakland and an American Jew, I strongly urge the council to pass this resolution for an immediate and permanent ceasefire. My Jewish values and traditions demand that we oppose this genocide and killing of our Palestinian siblings; there is nothing complicated about taking this moral and necessary stance. It is imperative that our voices and our city join the international demand for a permanent ceasefire immediately—for far, far too many it is already too late, but to save even one life would be to save an entire universe.

I oppose this resolution in its current form.

This resolution must be amended to condemn Hamas and call for its removal. Diverse voices within the Democratic leadership such as President Biden, Anthony Blinken, Barbara Lee, Bernie Sanders have all stated that there can be no lasting peace for Israelis and Palestinians so long as Hamas remains in power. That is why a ceasefire, while seemingly peace-oriented, actually achieves quite the opposite. As stated in their Charter and exemplified in their murderous and barbaric attack on Oct.7, Hamas has no interest in co-existence and will continue to attack Israel. The US State Department has declared Hamas to be a terrorist organization and this resolution whitewashes that reality. For these reasons I hope you support a real peace by amending this resolution.

This resolution does nothing except create more divisiveness in Oakland. If only the Council would hold special meetings to address spiraling crime and homelessness then engage in unrelated matters that we didn't elect you (or pay your salaries) to undertake. I find the rationale that Oakland's " Love of Life" commitment compels the Council to pass this resolution to be disingenuous. Murders in Oakland have surpassed 100 for the 4th year in a row and we are looking at 2023 being a record year for this devastating statistic. Please practice "Love of Life" in our own backyards before taking on the Mideast.

Please vote NO on the current version of this resolution!
