From: Councilmember Fife
Recommendation: Adopt A Resolution Affirming Oakland's Love Life Commitment And Support For The Congressional And Worldwide Calls For An Immediate Ceasefire In Gaza
I am a Jewish resident of Oakland. I am here asking you to amend the proposed resolution to condemn Hamas and call for their removal. As President Biden, Secretary of State Blinken and Congress have all made clear: There can be no lasting peace for Israelis and Palestinians if Hamas remains in power. As stated in their charter and shown by their October 7 attack – the deadliest on global Jews since the Holocaust – Hamas has no interest in coexistence. For these reasons, I hope you support a real peace by amending the resolution. Thank you for your time.
I am desperately begging the council to adopt the resolution demanding a ceasefire in Gaza and denouncing Israel’s actions of genocide and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people. I am committed to not vote for and campaign against any council member that does vote in support of the resolution. History AND your constituents are watching.
I am a Jewish resident in D1. I strongly support a ceasefire resolution. We need to stand up for justice and make sure that no more people are killed in Gaza in our names. Never again for anyone!
As a resident of Oakland, I care deeply about what is happening in Palestine. Oakland has long stood at the forefront of global movements for justice and peace, and history can attest to that. Congressman Ron Dellums, who subsequently became the mayor of Oakland from 2007-2011, pioneered the Comprehensive Anti-Apartheid Act, calling for an end to apartheid in South Africa. This is a piece of history that the city of Oakland and the United States can be proud of for generations. I also find hope in the calls to action from Jewish allies when they say: “‘Never Again’, means never again for anyone”, and this heartwarming solidarity they have displayed with pro-Palestinian voices.
My wife, three children, and I are Jewish residents of Oakland and have lived in District 2, currently served by Councilmember Fortunato Bas, for 10 years. The current ceasefire resolution needs to unequivocally condemn Hamas and support Israel's efforts to eliminate this terrorist organization. Per U.S. Executive Order 13224, Hamas is a terrorist organization. As President Biden and Congress have stated, there can be no lasting peace if Hamas remains in power. The Hamas charter clearly states: "Israel will exist...until Islam will obliterate it". The Hamas motto states "death for the sake of Allah is the loftiest of its wishes". Hamas' slaughter, rape, and kidnapping of innocent civilians on October 7 shows that they mean what they say in their charter, and there will be no peace as long as this terrorist organization is allowed to plan and execute their pernicious attacks. Please read the entire Hamas charter (https://avalon.law.yale.edu/20th_century/hamas.asp). If you still believe there can be peace between Israel and Hamas after reading this, I would love to hear your thoughts.
CEASEFIRE NOW, stop this genocide, an end to all US military aid to Israel, and an end to the occupation of Palestine.
I am a Jewish-american, Jewish educator and Oakland resident. I have family and friends in Israel and Palestine and I am calling upon my city with its rich history of racial and economic justice movements to condemn genocide and the killing of 20,000 civilians in Palestine, with *our tax dollars these past 7 weeks. If you do not pass this resolution you are failing your Jewish constituents, your Arab and Muslim constituents, and all of the diverse people of Oakland who have genocide in their ancestral histories. Now is the time to say something. Show our youth that Oakland stands for all life and always will.
The City of Oakland is often regaled for its rich and diverse history. A melting pot of different cultures, a home for the displaced. These streets have a long and storied history of serving their own; we see it in our community gardens, the People's Breakfast program, our various prisoner advocacy groups. We teach our children how to be indiscriminate vessels of empathy and compassion, but to maintain our silence on the atrocities enacted upon the people of Palestine only serves to dismantle those very teachings.
I urge the council to condemn Israeli Governance for the remorseless carnage wrecked upon Palestinians. This is not an issue that we can simply sweep under the rug of neutrality. This is the horrifying reality of our neighbors, classmates, friends. What message do we send to other refugee communities by remaining silent? That our care is conditional and only dealt when it benefits our bottom line? We must stand alongside Palestinians and advocate for a permanent ceasefire, the end of apartheid, the release of thousands of detained Palestinian children, and an end to the ecological devastation enacted upon Palestine's endemic flora.
I grew up in Oakland, went to Oakland Public schools, which my wife is also a teacher for. I’m an Oakland home and small business owner. I pay my taxes and vote in our local and national elections. I believe in our city and what it stands for and how we consistently rise up in solidarity for those that have been oppressed, marginalized, and threatened by those in power. Like the many freedom fighters who have come before us who sought after and accomplished civil and social change, I believe we can do the same today. We are a city that leads and does not follow the status quo. We, as the city of Oakland, need to stand for justice and call for an end the indiscriminate bombing and destruction of innocent Palestinian lives. Do not let this moment pass any longer, call for a ceasefire.
Put politics aside and ask your humanity: Since when killing humans is okay? If it was your family under attack, won't you ask for an immediate ceasefire to save them? +15000 have been killed, thousands arrested for years for no logical reason (including kids under the age of 10), and the rest are oppressed and treated worse than animal for the past 75 years.
Your silence is killing them by the second. CEASE FIRE RIGHT NOW!
We don't agree with a genocide sponsored with our tax money. If you don't want to act because you care about innocent families in Palestine, act because you care about improving our country with our tax money instead of sponsoring crimes. We hold accountable each one that can do a change but is staying silent.
I urge the city of Oakland to stand up for human rights by calling for a permanent cease fire and stand against the genocide against Palestinians. History will stand with Palestine-we just act before more lives are lost.
I am an Oakland grown woman and resident who loves her city and town. I demand that the city of Oakland calls for the immediate ceasefire in Gaza and denounces Israel’s violent, ethnic cleansing, and genocide of the Palestinian people! Please support our communities in this time! Please do not let the history of Oakland be as a bystander and supporter of genocide.
As a district 1 resident, I urge the Oakland City Council to support a permanent and immediate ceasefire in Gaza. A ceasefire is the bare minimum step in ensuring the end of the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.
The entire state looks to Oakland for leading the way in social justice initiatives and movements. Passing this resolution would set an important standard for this country and is the minimum we can do to support and affirm the humanity, sovereignty, and justice for the Palestinian people. How many more lives and children will it take? Ceasefire Now!
As a lifetime resident of Oakland, I urge the city to support the resolution for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza –and call for an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestine and U.S. aid to Israel! Our aid and unwavering support must go to the Palestinian people! Free Palestine!
As an Oakland resident I’m calling on my city council to stand with the thousands of Oaklanders who have been resisting the ongoing murder and displacement of Palestinians. We demand a ceasefire resolution immediately. City council members should be fiercely advocating with their colleagues at the state and national level to show strong opposition to a genocide of families women and children in the name of a so called “war on terror.” The US is funding the real terrors occurring in Gaza. Your constituents are watching and will not forget what actions you do or do not take. No more weapons and military funding to Israel, no more families broken and lives lost, no more murder of innocent people for profit, no more silence. Vote to AFFIRM this ceasefire resolution, and after that tell your colleagues in legislature to work to pull our tax dollars OUT of this genocide — enough is enough, do the right thing.
I strongly urge your unanimous support for the proposed resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. We must do everything we can to stand against and stop the Israeli genocide against Palestinians. Thousands of innocent children have been murdered by US funded and manufactured bombs. Many more have been displaced and continue to suffer without access to food, water, medicine and shelter. NOT IN OUR NAME! Please pass the resolution and do everything you can to advocate for this position with other legislators, especially Bay Area congressional representatives.

I am a resident in D3 of Oakland. I support the resolution for a ceasefire. No one is free until we are all free. End the occupation. Free Palestine!
I strongly support a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire. Charles, District 6
I reside in District 6 and support this resolution wholeheartedly.
