Recommendation: Adopt A Resolution Affirming Oakland's Love Life Commitment And Support For The Congressional And Worldwide Calls For An Immediate Ceasefire In Gaza
As a local government and as humans, it is essential that we demand a permanent and immediate ceasefire in Gaza, and an end to the occupation of Palestine. Not a cent of our tax dollars should go towards supporting genocide or ethnic cleansing!
As a first generation Chicano who is an educator and deeply invested in liberation I demand we stand WITH AND FOR the Palestinian community with an immediate ceasefire. They deserve to live with dignity and respect in their homeland.
Please join the calls for a ceasefire in Gaza! This is needed. Our own governor Newsome won’t lead on this issue - he is too busy building up his future presidential run and traveling to Israel to support its “right to defend itself” - or rather, right to commit all out genocide.
As an Oakland resident of six years, I am asking our city leadership to support a ceasefire!
As a new Oakland and a long-time SF resident, I stand with the coalition calling upon Oakland City Council to adopt a resolution for an immediate ceasefire and to end the inhumanity in Gaza. Oakland and SF are a bastion for peace, and have a rich history of progressive civil rights movements... I hope that the city council embraces our rich heritage and passes the resolution for a ceasefire.
My name is Joss Greene. I am a resident of Oakland District 2 and I strongly support this resolution. As an assistant professor of Sociology at the University of California, Davis, I study power, inequality, and social change. Along with more than 2,000 sociologists, I have signed a public letter condemning Israel's siege on Gaza and calling for a ceasefire. We are witnessing unimaginable violence and displacement, in a continuation and escalation of the daily violence Palestinians face from Israeli colonization. I urge the Oakland City Council to join people around the world who are raising their voices in protest of this assault on human life. I call on you to support the ceasefire resolution.

we need to support a ceasefire..our tax dollars have been funding the war...we need Oakland to show the nation that we will refuse to let our residents' dollars fight horrific wars and genocide abroad...we need peace in the Bay and peace in Palestine and Israel.

Join the local and global call of millions to end the US FUNDED ethnic cleansing of Gaza and Palestine.
We have witnessed the cruel unnatural death, violence and terror committed against Palestinians in the last 50 days the current lives lost is 20,000. Why would we ever be okay with that? Recognizing our power and responsibilities to one another we must do all we can to end our complicity and stop this genocide.
Adopting this resolution is urgent and extremely important. May it be one of many actions re-aligning us to our humanity, to people over profit, to collective healing and liberation.

As a Sikh, and longtime District 1 resident, I am watching elected officials closely to see where they stand on the murder of over 15,000 Palestinians, many of them children. My friends, family and I are disgusted by the lack of action by many supposedly "democratic" leaders who seem to be using us for votes while ignoring our voices in this crucial moment. I am a resident of downtown Oakland living in Council Member Fife's district. I thank Council member Fife for introducing the resolution in support of a ceasefire in Gaza. As a resident of Oakland, I urge the city council members to vote yes on Oakland's resolution in support of an immediate ceasefire in Gaza now. Atrocities against innocent Palestinian children and women are being committed in our name, using my tax dollars. As a soon-to-be parent, I am vehemently opposed to the crimes being committed and the killing of innocent children. I would like to bring up my child in a world that feels safe and in a city that supports ending all unnecessary violence. I support a ceasefire NOW and I sincerely hope the Oakland City Council members do too. Thank you.
