Recommendation: Adopt A Resolution Affirming Oakland's Love Life Commitment And Support For The Congressional And Worldwide Calls For An Immediate Ceasefire In Gaza
My name is Olivia Madison and I’m a constituent from District 3 in Oakland. I call demanding Oakland to take a stance and call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire. Oakland should stand on the right side of history and be unconditionally opposed to oppression everywhere. I demand an end to the military support and aid given to Israel, and an end to the occupation.
I am a Jewish American who was born and raising in Oakland, and I now live close by. I strongly support the ceasefire resolution. Jewish Americans say not in our name!
I am writing urging you to 1) pass the resolution in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, who are being subject to ethnic cleansing and genocide by the Israeli state backed by the United States, and to demand a CEASEFIRE NOW. Already, over 14000 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli army, with more than 5000 of them being children.
Oakland has long stood at the forefront of global movements for justice and peace, and history can attest to that. Congressman Ron Dellums, who subsequently became the mayor of Oakland from 2007-2011, pioneered the Comprehensive Anti-Apartheid Act, calling for an end to apartheid in South Africa. This is a piece of history that the city of Oakland and the United States can be proud of for generations. I also find hope in the calls to action from Jewish allies when they say: “‘Never Again’, means never again for anyone”, and this heartwarming solidarity they have displayed with pro-Palestinian voices.
We can set a powerful precedent to hopefully lead a wave of solidarity across the nation.

The city of Oakland needs to take a stand against the genocidal violence being perpetuated by Israel. A so-called “pause” during the business shopping weekend of year is morbidly transparent. The least we can do as a community is condemn Israel’s war crimes and demand a permanent ceasefire, all aid to be allowed into Gaza, and to allow the people to be free (access to their homelands, water, electricity, and so on). They deserve to be FREE.
As a resident of Oakland, I demand all officials to please stand with the people and Support + Demand the Resolution for an Immediate Permanent Ceasefire Now. Please do everything in your power to stop the killings of our peoples.
I'm a constituent of District 4. We must call for a ceasefire now. Israel's bombing of Gaza is genocide in action. It is also the occupation of Palestinian land and oppression of Palestinian people. We cannot sit idly by and we cannot excuse Israel's actions. Nothing less than a ceasefire. We must allow humanitarian aid in to Gaza and we must stop all military aid to Israel.
I support this resolution. Our government needs to make a visible stance demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and an end to the slaughter of civilians there, and should go further in ceasing military and financial support of Israel.

As a community member who honors life of people and land, we must face the truth. REAL PEOPLE are DYING every minute. We the people do not agree to the murder of innocent lives in Palestine by our tax dollars through U.S funding to Israel. PLEASE DO EVERYTHING IN YOUR POWER TO SAVE LIVES NOW NOW NOW! May these brutal killings end!
My name is Jennifer Lin and I am calling on you to support this critical resolution. This is a critical issue for Oakland residents. The genocidal settler colonial state of Israel is being funded with our tax dollars, money that could be used instead to house and feed marginalized communities in Oaklands. Moreover, Arab and Muslim communities in Oakland are experiencing heightened attacks due to a rise of Islamophobia. It’s up to us voters and city councilmembers to support the Palestinian liberation movement and call for a permanent ceasefire and a total end to the Israeli occupation. If you vote in support of this resolution and choose to stand on the side of the people, you will have the widespread backing of your constituents in future elections. Thank you.
